Outdoor Adventure Travel Asia

An outdoor adventure travel in Asia before I get to old is a high priority for me. I’m not talking about any outdoor adventure travel in Asia, but I would love to ride across Mongolia on a seasoned local horse. Unfortunately I have only in the Main Line of Philadelphia and some of the Southern English counties. What do they all have in common? Fences and traffic! And lets not forget some uneducated rednecks that seem to think it’s funny throwing a firecracker under your horse’s hooves.

Now, Mongolia is a country that rests on a horse’s back. They still rely on an agrarian culture. They also have miles of miles of nothing but land. Imagine sailing the seas of grass on a four-legged boat. Horse lovers have many choices of outdoor adventure travel in Asia, not just in Mongolia.

Catered For The Horse Lover

The travel industry was quick to notice that if you love horses, the chances are good that you would not mind spending a little money to ride in foreign countries in all kinds of terrain. There are many places on the web and travel agencies that have specific opportunities to delight the horse lover who knows a vacation isn’t a vacation unless a saddle is involved somewhere.

If the Mongolian trip doesn’t interest you, you could look at other outdoor adventure travel in Asia. You could ride in the Himalayas or in Turkey. But I have my eye on Equitours’ Gobi Grasslands Trek. I have eyed this since it was first offered in the 1980’s in advertisements of horse magazines. Well, maybe, one day…

Gobi Grasslands Trek

This outdoor adventure travel in Asia by horseback is 8 days long, with five and a half days of riding, with an average of six glorious hours pretending you are a centaur. You have to fly about a day to Mongolia, then take a van to Ulaanbaatar until there are no more roads and the mud and grass of the steppes vanquishes all puny man made travel.

With your outdoor adventure travel in Asia you are introduced to your horse. Mongolian horses are somewhat scruffier, but yet sturdier versions of Mustangs. They are direct decedents of the mounts ridden by Ghengis Khan’s hoards. They may look small, but they are strong. You then get a test ride to see if you fit with the horse selected for you. The next day you get to say whether you would rather stick with your initial horse or get a calmer or a livelier horse. In my daydreams, I get one that snorts fire. It doesn’t matter that I haven’t ridden for three years – for a two thousand dollar vacation I want to ride and not just shuffle about.
